Gluten Free 25th Anniversary Cake

This gluten-free 25th anniversary cake is adorned with ivory gumpaste roses and rhinestone picks. The piped monogram & swirls covering the sides of the cake & base board are highlighted with silver, traditional for a 25th anniversary. Inside one of the tiers was gluten free chocolate cake with alternating layers of peanut butter & chocolate buttercream filling, & the second tier was gluten free red velvet cake with alternating layers of raspberry & madagascar vanilla buttercream filling.
We got this email from the client recently:
"Hi Josh & Cathy!
I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to email you sooner, but I just wanted to say thank you SOOOO much for the gluten-free Anniversary Cake. It turned out absolutely BEAUTIFUL and everyone just loved it, especially my parents!

Helmet and Rifle cake

This rifle and helmet cake is modeled after an image in the hugely popular "Call of Duty" video game. The helmet is resting precariously on the butt of the rifle, which is decorated exactly like a real rifle, even down to the scope and trigger! We love the "dirt" around the base and on the scuffed helmet!

Sleigh Cake

sleigh2wtmk
This sleigh cake is one we decorated for Erin (of the Homepage Wedding Cake fame) and her new groom's Hanukkah dinner. It is decorated in blues and silvers, with edible crystal-laden orbs, sugar pine cones and needles, and blue hydrangeas from their actual wedding cake! It is resting on twisted metal rails and is all wrapped in a gorgeous blue bow, with hand-painted silver swirls. The inside was a flavor we just developed- a S'mores cake! We baked a graham cracker cake, filled the layers with a milk chocolate ganache, and iced it with a delicious marshmallow buttercream!

Cake Wrecks Charity

Our friends at Cake Wrecks, Jen and John, have come up with a wonderful and ingenious way to help over two dozen different charities in the next two weeks-each day, they post a different charity program (to which they are personally giving at least $200 to each, btw!) with a link to it's donation site. They are asking their readers, which are now numbering in the tens of thousands, to each give only $1 per day. Imagine-with 80,000 readers, that's a LOT of dough and a LOT of warm fuzzy feelings! So we wanted to share this amazing event with you- head over to the Cake Wrecks blog, look for the charity information at the bottom of the day's post, (or just head to their Charity Countdown page) and give your dollar. We are sure it'll be the easiest and quickest way to get into the holiday spirit!

Holiday Pet Supply Drive

Another great charity event we are participating in is the Holiday Pet Supply Drive, hosted by While You Were Gone Pet Sitting Service in Morristown, NJ. Your donations of collars, leashes, food, toys, and cleaning products will go directly to the Jersey Coalition Animal Shelter- an all volunteer, not-for-profit, no kill shelter that has rescued and placed over 7,000 stray and abandoned pets since it was founded in 1989.

As a special treat for our human friends, Jacy Cakes will be raffling off 3 of our decorated gingerbread houses- regular and gluten free! For every item you donate, you will get a ticket- so the more you donate, the better your chances! Our festive gingerbread houses available in a traditional red, green, and white color scheme or blue, yellow, and white.

We will be picking up & collecting donations until December 22, 2009. At the time of pick up, please specify which variety of gingerbread house you would like to be in the running for. On December 23, 2009 we will pick & announce the 3 winners of the gingerbread houses, & they will be delivered by December 24, 2009.

Menu for Hope 6

6a00d83451bc0669e20120a6f07819970b-800wiWe are so honored to be taking part in the Sixth Annual Menu for Hope, an annual fundraising campaign raising money for the UN World Food Programme, helping to feed hungry people worldwide. WFP is the world’s largest food aid agency, working with over 1,000 other organizations in over 75 countries. In addition to providing food, the World Food Program helps hungry people to become self-reliant so that they escape hunger for good.We are so excited to be taking part in this wonderful and unique event-- the Menu for Hope is a collection of bloggers from across the world who donate a wide assortment of food-related goodies, classes, art, or whatever they can think of. The items are then listed on a donation site and the visitors purchase $10 virtual raffle tickets which they can apply to whatever item they choose. At the end of the raffle, all the tickets are tallied and a winner for each item is announced.

The items Jacy Cakes will be providing are four seasonal shipments of a dozen of our large hand-decorated sugar cookies over the course of the upcoming new year, one shipment every three months. Each cookie will be individually bagged and tied with a satin ribbon, ready to enjoy on the spot or give as gifts. Our cookies are made with the highest quality ingredients and are decorated, bagged, and shipped within two days of their baking, and are shipped priority mail overnight to ensure their freshness.  We can offer our traditional sugar cookie as well as a vegan or gluten-free version. These cookies can easily be shipped anywhere across the country.

The Menu for Hope raffle begins on December 14th and ends on December 25th. Keep an eye out for a link to the donation site on December 14, where you can start your raffling engines! If you're already on our mailing list, we will notify you. If you're not, why not go ahead and sign up?

For more information on the Menu for Hope, check out the Chez Pim blog. Remember, any amount you can give will make a difference!!

Homepage Wedding Cake

erinswmk
This wedding cake is on our homepage and here is the story behind it. The cake was red velvet with raspberry buttercream filling, and the design of the cake was based on incorporating the flowers that were in the bride's bouquet & elements of the bride's dress-including piping that mimicked the beading on the bodice of her dress. It is a good example of one of the options we offer to help with the cost of a cake that we think is really useful to anyone having a big event these days. To achieve the look of a big and beautiful cake without paying the cost of making the whole cake be real, consider having some tiers be dummy cakes. By doing that, you can not only replace tiers of cake that would have been real otherwise, but you can also add on more and make the cake even bigger and more impressive than it would have been without the extra dummy tiers! In this cake the only tier that is actual cake is the bottom tier and as you can see, having dummy cakes for the rest does not take away from the overall effect. That is because although the inside is not really cake, the outside is still decorated in the same way, using the same materials as if it were real cake. Along with the cake for the showpiece on display at the reception, we provided "backup cake" to serve the remainder of the guests that the showpiece cake did not cover. Doing this cut down the cost of this cake considerably from the price of what it would have been to have the whole showpiece be real cake.

Today we received a really sweet thank you card from the happy couple that I couldn't resist sharing here:
"Dear Cathy & Josh,
Thank you so much for the gorgeous cake. You took our ideas to the next level! We could have never dreamed of a cake so beautiful. People still talk about how amazing the cake was-in looks & taste. You guys rock!
Love, Erin & Matt"
