Beverly's Bake Off!

Beverly's Bake off was a silent bake goods auction and benefit for the National LGBT Cancer Network. It was held at Comix in NYC last week & we were happy to provide a display cake to greet the guests as they came in, along with mini cupcakes & a gift certificate that was up for auction!

The cake was mainly based on the theme of the night & the logo with a 50's baker twist. On top of this topsy turvy cake was an open 50's style oven with some fresh pies inside, and "spilling out" all over the cake were some more baked goods. In the middle of the topsy tiers was a 50's style table top with signature ridged edge. Standing in front of the cake & presenting it is our interpretation of Beverly in her 50's dress, apron, oven mitts and of course, no lady baker is complete without her pearls & high heels!

Strong supporters of LGBT rights & causes ourselves, we were happy to be able to help raise funds for this group. The LGBT National Cancer Network is an organization that works to improve the lives of LGBT cancer survivors and those who are at risk. For more information on what they do or to become a member, please visit their website.

Cake Wrecks Charity

Our friends at Cake Wrecks, Jen and John, have come up with a wonderful and ingenious way to help over two dozen different charities in the next two weeks-each day, they post a different charity program (to which they are personally giving at least $200 to each, btw!) with a link to it's donation site. They are asking their readers, which are now numbering in the tens of thousands, to each give only $1 per day. Imagine-with 80,000 readers, that's a LOT of dough and a LOT of warm fuzzy feelings! So we wanted to share this amazing event with you- head over to the Cake Wrecks blog, look for the charity information at the bottom of the day's post, (or just head to their Charity Countdown page) and give your dollar. We are sure it'll be the easiest and quickest way to get into the holiday spirit!

Holiday Pet Supply Drive

Another great charity event we are participating in is the Holiday Pet Supply Drive, hosted by While You Were Gone Pet Sitting Service in Morristown, NJ. Your donations of collars, leashes, food, toys, and cleaning products will go directly to the Jersey Coalition Animal Shelter- an all volunteer, not-for-profit, no kill shelter that has rescued and placed over 7,000 stray and abandoned pets since it was founded in 1989.

As a special treat for our human friends, Jacy Cakes will be raffling off 3 of our decorated gingerbread houses- regular and gluten free! For every item you donate, you will get a ticket- so the more you donate, the better your chances! Our festive gingerbread houses available in a traditional red, green, and white color scheme or blue, yellow, and white.

We will be picking up & collecting donations until December 22, 2009. At the time of pick up, please specify which variety of gingerbread house you would like to be in the running for. On December 23, 2009 we will pick & announce the 3 winners of the gingerbread houses, & they will be delivered by December 24, 2009.

Menu for Hope 6

6a00d83451bc0669e20120a6f07819970b-800wiWe are so honored to be taking part in the Sixth Annual Menu for Hope, an annual fundraising campaign raising money for the UN World Food Programme, helping to feed hungry people worldwide. WFP is the world’s largest food aid agency, working with over 1,000 other organizations in over 75 countries. In addition to providing food, the World Food Program helps hungry people to become self-reliant so that they escape hunger for good.We are so excited to be taking part in this wonderful and unique event-- the Menu for Hope is a collection of bloggers from across the world who donate a wide assortment of food-related goodies, classes, art, or whatever they can think of. The items are then listed on a donation site and the visitors purchase $10 virtual raffle tickets which they can apply to whatever item they choose. At the end of the raffle, all the tickets are tallied and a winner for each item is announced.

The items Jacy Cakes will be providing are four seasonal shipments of a dozen of our large hand-decorated sugar cookies over the course of the upcoming new year, one shipment every three months. Each cookie will be individually bagged and tied with a satin ribbon, ready to enjoy on the spot or give as gifts. Our cookies are made with the highest quality ingredients and are decorated, bagged, and shipped within two days of their baking, and are shipped priority mail overnight to ensure their freshness.  We can offer our traditional sugar cookie as well as a vegan or gluten-free version. These cookies can easily be shipped anywhere across the country.

The Menu for Hope raffle begins on December 14th and ends on December 25th. Keep an eye out for a link to the donation site on December 14, where you can start your raffling engines! If you're already on our mailing list, we will notify you. If you're not, why not go ahead and sign up?

For more information on the Menu for Hope, check out the Chez Pim blog. Remember, any amount you can give will make a difference!!

West Village Dog Run Halloween Party

The West Village Dog Owners Group was founded over fifteen years ago with the purpose of establishing off-leash recreation facilities for dog-owners and their pets. Due to the lack of public parks in the West Village, WVDOG located potential dog-run sites, lobbied public officials and Community Board 2 for the space, then built, insured and operated the dog run without any public funding.
On Halloween they have a party at this dog run where their dogs come dressed in costume to party with all their friends. This year we were happy to be a part of it by providing them with a cake to look like a dog in costume, assorted cupcakes & homemade all natural dog treats for the dogs' goodie bags & prize baskets! Through raffles they were able to raise funds to donate to the Mayor's Alliance for their programs to help shelter animals, a very worthy cause indeed :o)
Here are some pictures of the costumed dogs from that night..

Fashion Night Out in New York City!

Cathy and I are both huge fans of Project Runway and we love anything related to fashion. We were asked to participate in New York City's annual Fashion Night Out, in which many of the city's fashion designers and retailers stay open for extended hours to give their customers a glamorous and elite shopping experience, all while collecting clothing and donations for the NYC AIDS Fund. We were honored to donate hundreds of these fashion-inspired mini cupcakes to the event. Unfortunately, neither of us was able to attend any of the festivities, but we hear the city was buzzing through the night!
