Baptism Cross Cake

crosswmk3

This client asked for a very simple cake so that she wouldn't feel guilty cutting into it, but her 1 request was that we replicate the cross party favor she would be giving out at the party to have on the cake. The cross on the cake was made with fondant to look as exact as possible, and it was highlighted with swarovski crystals to mimic those found in the real cross. Here are close up pics of the real cross (on the left) & the fondant replicated cross (on the right).

We heard from the client a few days afterwards & she said the cake was not only delicious, but she was very happy with the overall reaction of her guests, which was that of disbelief that the cross on the cake was not actually a favor that was placed on the cake. We are happy we were able to able to successfully carry out her request!

Beverly's Bake Off!

Beverly's Bake off was a silent bake goods auction and benefit for the National LGBT Cancer Network. It was held at Comix in NYC last week & we were happy to provide a display cake to greet the guests as they came in, along with mini cupcakes & a gift certificate that was up for auction!

The cake was mainly based on the theme of the night & the logo with a 50's baker twist. On top of this topsy turvy cake was an open 50's style oven with some fresh pies inside, and "spilling out" all over the cake were some more baked goods. In the middle of the topsy tiers was a 50's style table top with signature ridged edge. Standing in front of the cake & presenting it is our interpretation of Beverly in her 50's dress, apron, oven mitts and of course, no lady baker is complete without her pearls & high heels!

Strong supporters of LGBT rights & causes ourselves, we were happy to be able to help raise funds for this group. The LGBT National Cancer Network is an organization that works to improve the lives of LGBT cancer survivors and those who are at risk. For more information on what they do or to become a member, please visit their website.

Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend!

This cake was for a 21st Birthday party at the Chi Lounge in Long Island, NY. The theme of this very pink cake was "Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend", because the birthday girl loves Marilyn Monroe and the color pink. We drew inspiration from the dress worn in the movie and this is the result.

When we met with this client she said "The more bling, the better!", so we made sure to add as much as we could fit in. There were clear swarovski crystals on the pink "21" that topped this topsy turvy cake, and pink crystals highlighted her name on the front. They were also on the square brooches on the dark pink bands on each tier that mimic the belt on Ms. Monroe's iconic pink dress.

Spilling out from the tiers where they tilt over are sugar diamonds ranging in color from clear to dark pink, the biggest one sitting on top with the 21. More crystals highlighted the diamonds just to add a little more bling! Finally, to bring more of the dress onto the cake, there was a huge dark pink sugar bow on the back held in place with a rhinestone pick-bling!

Lamp Post Cake

We recently created a lamp post cake for a company holiday party. It featured a wreath with sugar covered ornaments, lamp panels made of sugar & a blown sugar flame. Inside the flame was a real light to illuminate the lamp post, which stood over 3 ft tall!

The cake was chocolate with madagascar vanilla filling & white cake with raspberry filling.

Gluten Free 25th Anniversary Cake

This gluten-free 25th anniversary cake is adorned with ivory gumpaste roses and rhinestone picks. The piped monogram & swirls covering the sides of the cake & base board are highlighted with silver, traditional for a 25th anniversary. Inside one of the tiers was gluten free chocolate cake with alternating layers of peanut butter & chocolate buttercream filling, & the second tier was gluten free red velvet cake with alternating layers of raspberry & madagascar vanilla buttercream filling.
We got this email from the client recently:
"Hi Josh & Cathy!
I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to email you sooner, but I just wanted to say thank you SOOOO much for the gluten-free Anniversary Cake. It turned out absolutely BEAUTIFUL and everyone just loved it, especially my parents!

Homepage Wedding Cake

erinswmk
This wedding cake is on our homepage and here is the story behind it. The cake was red velvet with raspberry buttercream filling, and the design of the cake was based on incorporating the flowers that were in the bride's bouquet & elements of the bride's dress-including piping that mimicked the beading on the bodice of her dress. It is a good example of one of the options we offer to help with the cost of a cake that we think is really useful to anyone having a big event these days. To achieve the look of a big and beautiful cake without paying the cost of making the whole cake be real, consider having some tiers be dummy cakes. By doing that, you can not only replace tiers of cake that would have been real otherwise, but you can also add on more and make the cake even bigger and more impressive than it would have been without the extra dummy tiers! In this cake the only tier that is actual cake is the bottom tier and as you can see, having dummy cakes for the rest does not take away from the overall effect. That is because although the inside is not really cake, the outside is still decorated in the same way, using the same materials as if it were real cake. Along with the cake for the showpiece on display at the reception, we provided "backup cake" to serve the remainder of the guests that the showpiece cake did not cover. Doing this cut down the cost of this cake considerably from the price of what it would have been to have the whole showpiece be real cake.

Today we received a really sweet thank you card from the happy couple that I couldn't resist sharing here:
"Dear Cathy & Josh,
Thank you so much for the gorgeous cake. You took our ideas to the next level! We could have never dreamed of a cake so beautiful. People still talk about how amazing the cake was-in looks & taste. You guys rock!
Love, Erin & Matt"

Designer Purse and Shopping Bag Cake

coach2wmk
We created this designer bag cake for a bridal shower a few weeks ago- we are always happy and excited to make highly detailed cakes like this! The bride's mother, fiancé, and bridal party were instrumental in helping with not only the concept of this cake, but also with investigating the actual brands and models of her cell phone and sunglasses, as well as getting us detailed pictures of the bag from every angle possible!

coach6wmk
The cake features a Coach hand bag sitting in front of a Coach shopping bag. Inside the bag is a pair of her favorite Dior sunglasses, the lenses of which were made of poured sugar and the arms made of fondant with Swarovski crystal details. On the board, a replica of her cell phone with a charm saying "I love James", her fiancé. The cake flavor was white cake with cookies and cream buttercream.

Zen-inspired ReFined Sugar Free Crystal Cake

This is certainly one of our most unique cakes, both in design and flavor: a square, ivory, four-tiered cake, with alternating layers of refined-sugar free brownie and vanilla cakes, filled with a refined-sugar free sour cherry balsamic compote. The most unique elements, though, are the crystals and tumbled rocks made completely out of sugar!

We were so excited to make this cake and are thrilled at the results!

Josh's 29th Birthday Cake!

Jacy Cakes' own Joshua turned 29 yesterday! And to celebrate, he wanted continue the birthday tradition started last year of having a giraffe on his cake. For those of you who haven't met him, he's like 10 ft tall! Ok, not really, but he's very tall nonetheless & because of that he has been likened to a giraffe for some time, & he loves it! So when he made a request for a drag queen giraffe on a cake, I was happy to oblige...
Meet Bootsie Nectarine, Josh's alter ego or inner lady. Standing on a mini stage made of cake, she wears a silver glittered gown, has long eyelashes & a blonde beehive hairdo is her crowning glory. Notice she doesn't have a tail, that is because she tucked it in, like a lady ;o)
For more close up pictures of Bootsie, please visit our Sugar Figurines section.

Baby Shower

We were so happy recently to finally get to actualize this baby shower cake idea! It's a buttercream cake that is decorated with continuous pink & yellow fondant swirls that cover the cake from top to bottom. On top is a literal baby shower, with a baby inside a bubbly bathtub sporting a swirly soapsud hairdo, sitting underneath a dripping shower head. Mini Fashionista

elainecake1

Last week we decided to surprise a good friend of Jacy Cakes who has helped us out so much, with a cake to say Thank You & Happy Birthday!! Elaine is always super sleek and fashionable, so it was a lot of fun to make a tiny version of her covered in her favorite accessories, including a newsie cap, gold hoop earrings and a scarf. Sitting next to her is a replica of an Aldo bag we thought she might like that fit her style. The cake was red velvet- her favorite- with raspberry buttercream filling, and we hope it satisfied her cake fix, for the week anyways :o)
To see close ups of this or any other figure you see on a cake, please look at the picture gallery under the "Our Specialties: Sugar Figurines/ Flowers" section of our website.

Thanks to all the talented ladies who took the class, and thanks also to my lovely assistant Joshua :o)

Devin's 8th Birthday

IMG_3146wtmkIMG_3139wtmk

This past weekend was Josh's niece Devin's 8th birthday, and, as tradition has it, we made a fantastic cake for the occasion! Her theme was a Mexican Fiesta, so we decided to make a broken pinata with candy spilling out and various fiesta-inspired sugar items surrounding the cake, including a cactus "8", a pinata stick, maracas, and chili peppers! Devin was so excited to see her cake--we kept it a surprise from her until the day of the party, and when she first saw it, her jaw almost fell to the floor! We are so happy we got to make this cake for Devin and that we helped make her fiesta a success!
