Baptism Cross Cake

crosswmk3

This client asked for a very simple cake so that she wouldn't feel guilty cutting into it, but her 1 request was that we replicate the cross party favor she would be giving out at the party to have on the cake. The cross on the cake was made with fondant to look as exact as possible, and it was highlighted with swarovski crystals to mimic those found in the real cross. Here are close up pics of the real cross (on the left) & the fondant replicated cross (on the right).

We heard from the client a few days afterwards & she said the cake was not only delicious, but she was very happy with the overall reaction of her guests, which was that of disbelief that the cross on the cake was not actually a favor that was placed on the cake. We are happy we were able to able to successfully carry out her request!

Beverly's Bake Off!

Beverly's Bake off was a silent bake goods auction and benefit for the National LGBT Cancer Network. It was held at Comix in NYC last week & we were happy to provide a display cake to greet the guests as they came in, along with mini cupcakes & a gift certificate that was up for auction!

The cake was mainly based on the theme of the night & the logo with a 50's baker twist. On top of this topsy turvy cake was an open 50's style oven with some fresh pies inside, and "spilling out" all over the cake were some more baked goods. In the middle of the topsy tiers was a 50's style table top with signature ridged edge. Standing in front of the cake & presenting it is our interpretation of Beverly in her 50's dress, apron, oven mitts and of course, no lady baker is complete without her pearls & high heels!

Strong supporters of LGBT rights & causes ourselves, we were happy to be able to help raise funds for this group. The LGBT National Cancer Network is an organization that works to improve the lives of LGBT cancer survivors and those who are at risk. For more information on what they do or to become a member, please visit their website.

Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend!

This cake was for a 21st Birthday party at the Chi Lounge in Long Island, NY. The theme of this very pink cake was "Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend", because the birthday girl loves Marilyn Monroe and the color pink. We drew inspiration from the dress worn in the movie and this is the result.

When we met with this client she said "The more bling, the better!", so we made sure to add as much as we could fit in. There were clear swarovski crystals on the pink "21" that topped this topsy turvy cake, and pink crystals highlighted her name on the front. They were also on the square brooches on the dark pink bands on each tier that mimic the belt on Ms. Monroe's iconic pink dress.

Spilling out from the tiers where they tilt over are sugar diamonds ranging in color from clear to dark pink, the biggest one sitting on top with the 21. More crystals highlighted the diamonds just to add a little more bling! Finally, to bring more of the dress onto the cake, there was a huge dark pink sugar bow on the back held in place with a rhinestone pick-bling!

Lamp Post Cake

We recently created a lamp post cake for a company holiday party. It featured a wreath with sugar covered ornaments, lamp panels made of sugar & a blown sugar flame. Inside the flame was a real light to illuminate the lamp post, which stood over 3 ft tall!

The cake was chocolate with madagascar vanilla filling & white cake with raspberry filling.

Chef's Hat Gluten-Free Wedding Cake

This interesting wedding cake is another gluten-free creation we've done in the past couple months. The top tier is sculpted into the shape of a chef's hat, and various gum paste kitchen tools, like a whisk, spatula, and spoon, are scattered around the tiers. The teal colored rouched band around the bottom tiers matched the bridesmaid's dresses.

We received this wonderful email from a friend of the newlywed couple:

"I just wanted to let you know what a fantastic job you guys did on Helene's gluten free wedding cake and the groom's cake.....they were each truly a work of art and were the receipients of too many oohs and aahs to count. The Max groom's cake was awesome and the wedding cake was just perfect.

And as gorgeous as the wedding cake was to look at, it was even more satisfying to eat----my daughter relished every single bite of her two pieces of gluten free cake! The guests had no idea that they were eating gluten free cake---they just thought it was delicious chocolate wedding cake.

Again, thanks again and I will definitely recommend you guys as much as possible!"

Gluten Free Ornament Box Cake

A few weeks back we got an email from Amy, organizer for the Celiac's About Town group in NYC. She said that her group along with the NYC Celiac Disease Meetup Group were having a joint holiday party, & she asked if we could provide them with a cake.

We created this open ornament box cake for them made of gluten free chocolate & gluten free vanilla cake with raspberry filling. The ornament itself had a "100" on it because that party also marked the 100th meetup for one of the groups.
